Where is Campbell Hills Guest Ranch located?
The ranch is located in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada. We are about 18km southeast of Kamloops. You can drive here from the city in less than half an hour.
How long does it take to get there from Vancouver?
It’s only about 370 km North-East of Vancouver. If you leave in the morning, it’s an easy day’s drive and will you will get to the ranch by the early afternoon. Most people make it in just over 5hrs. If you give yourself enough daylight, it’s a beautiful scenic drive.
How long is the flight from Vancouver to Kamloops?
The flight time from Vancouver to Kamloops is just over ½ an hour.
What is the closest city?
Kamloops is ½ an hour away and has a population of 90,000 people.
How many people does the ranch accommodate?
Our guest ranch can accommodate up to 20 people.
How many cabins are there?
We have two cabins that each sleep four and one family cabin that sleeps six people. In the main lodge you’ll find two bedrooms, both with a King sized bed and our bunkhouse sleeps up to three children.
How many rooms in cabins?
The first two cabins have 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a loft and a living room. The Family Cabin has one big open space, a living and sleeping area plus bathroom.
Do you bring your own food?
We are an all-inclusive holiday resort. All meals, snacks, and nonalcoholic beverages are included in the price of your stay.
Can we make special dietary requests?
Absolutely. We are able to cater to your dietary requests. Please inform us of your requirements prior to arrival and we’ll be happy to help.
Are there house cleaning services, or do we clean our own cabins?
Yes, we offer daily housekeeping.
Is the ranch wheelchair accessible/friendly?
The ranch would be challenging for those requiring assistance. The roads aren’t paved and there are steps into the cabins. However, we can certainly make every effort to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and provide help whenever needed.
Can someone teach me to ride a horse, even if I’ve never ridden before?
Absolutely, our experienced wranglers will take you into the arena to introduce natural horsemanship before you go out on your trail ride. Don’t worry, many of our guests come to us as absolute beginners.
How involved can we be with the horse’s care?
Natural horsemanship encourages building a strong relationship with your horse. We like to encourage our guests to participate as much as possible with the handling of our horses. Natural horsemanship extends to daily grooming, feeding and giving them a bath after a trail ride.
How does a trail ride compare for beginner and experienced riders?
For beginner riders we use our easier, less adventurous trails and keep the horses at a walking pace. For experienced riders we use trails where we can occasionally trot or / and canter. On hot summer days we love riding the horses bareback, and taking them for a dip in the lake to cool off. Either way, you’re guaranteed beautiful vistas and a memorable experience.
What is there to do in the evenings?
Our Wild Horse Saloon has a fully licensed bar, a well equipped games room upstairs, shelves full of books and a TV nook with lots of western movies. For those who enjoy their evenings outside, the deck has a beautiful lake view and games like bocce ball, horseshoes and archery. Theme nights such as western Line Dancing, Live Music, Karaoke, etc. We also have a fully stocked campfire pit with stargazing.
Is there cell reception and WIFI at the ranch?
Yes, we have a booster on our Main Lodge, so cellphone coverage is good. Long distance calls are available for purchase in the Saloon. Satellite internet is available in the main lodge for no extra charge.
What do you do in case of a medical emergency?
There is a hospital in Kamloops.
Does your staff have first aid experience?
Yes. Our staff is fully trained in CPR and First Aid.
What do we wear?
You will need boots with heels for the trail rides. We do have a supply of cowboy boots for rent for $2.50 a day. We recommend comfortable jeans or long pants for horseback riding and the rest is your preference. Our guests usually keep it simple with T-shirts, shorts, running shoes and sweaters/layers for the evening.
What is the weather like?
In this part of the BC the snow sticks around until late March/beginning of April, and May can be up and down. Be prepared for possible showers and/or chilly evenings. Typically it’s sunny throughout the main summer months (June, July and August until mid September) reaching temperatures of 30°c. Our trail rides will be customized for the different weather to make sure you stay comfortable and get the most out of your guest ranch vacation.
What is Natural Horsemanship?
Our horses are living in a natural environment and are being trained in a kind, non-intimidating fashion. They show no resentment when we go get them for trail riding. They love their job, because we show them respect and work in harmony with them. We are extremely passionate about natural horsemanship, so ask us any questions!
