Because we practice natural horsemanship at our ranch, our horses are level headed and responsive with the right communication. Ridden bitless with Bosals or Hackamore bridles and barefoot.
Meet our herd of Ranch Horses below. They live and roam the lands around the bonaparte river.
Billy, 7 yr old QH Gelding:
Beautiful calm and responsive quarter horse, born here at the ranch. He has been exposed to extensive training in Natural Horsemanship. We finished the first rides on Billy in 2020. Bernadette hopes he will become her horse partner and a true feather horse.
Rock Star, 17 yr Palomino Mustang Gelding:
Rocky amazes us with his beautiful character. He is an awesome trail horse who neck reins, loves to jump, and in the herd he plays a lot with Raven to test ‘who is who in the Zoo!
Brandy, 23 yr old Rocky Mountain Mare:
Brandy is our Cadillac when it comes to smooth trail riding. She offers the running walk instead of trot, which is an extra gait for Rocky Mountain breeds. Very responsive trail horse and a dream to ride for the experienced rider.
Jewel, 12 yr old Palomino QH Mare:
Jewel has had an extensive training at the ranch and tested us with her left brain introvert character. She surprised us many times by letting us think her being stubborn while she was actually afraid. We learned a lot from her, and keeps us on our toes and in the moment when around her.
Noha, 21 yr old QH Mare:
We rescued Noha in November 2015 and she graced us with Billy on April 13 2016. Noha was a broodmare all her life, and never experienced keeping a foal for so long. Noha is making huge progress with her training as a Wrangler horse, see our blog http://www.campbellhillsguestranch.com/noha-continues-natural-horsemanship-training/
Storm, 19 yr old Tennessee Walker Gelding:
Our biggest boy 16.3 hh. With a beautiful trot and canter. Storm loves to cuddle and groom and is usually to be found around Cochise when in the herd.
Bella, 10 yr old Canadian / Paint Mare:
We added Bella in 2018 to our herd. A young beautiful big black mare who settles in nice. We started natural horsemanship with her in the fall 2018 and already ride her bitless. She is very sensitive and quite perceptive to different things but likes to please. Bella will become a solid trail horse with more miles and exposure.
Spurr is an 18 yr old Quarter / Canadian Gelding. He was diagnosed with Insulin resistance in 2015, but we managed to keep him in the herd and his health is stable with movement.
He loves food and has a high status in the herd dynamics. At the same time he needs a little help from us to prevent over eating. An interesting horse to learn from.
Cochise, 22 yr old Paint Gelding:
Cochise is a 15.2 hh trail horse who is quite sensitive and super responsive to aids. Lovely canter and trot! He loves to buddy up with Storm when in the herd.
Thor, 12 yr old Fjord Gelding:
Thor arrived at the ranch fall 2016 and tried to become leader of the herd, but wise old Blacky didn’t allow him yet! Maybe in a few years when he becomes wiser and more mature! Thor has become a solid trail horse / pony, who loves to jump over little logs and small water crossings!
Ace, 17 yr old Rocky Mountain Gelding:
Ace helped Bernadette in her initial Natural Horsemanship journey. Being a left brain introvert he gave her many puzzles to solve. He discovered how to open gates with his nose, loves treats and likes to play fight in the herd! Solid Rocky Mountain gelding and very smooth on the trails.
Raven 10 yr old Percheron / Canadian Gelding:
In August 2018 we bought this young Big Black Percheron Gelding. Raven is a gentle giant who is learning all the natural horsemanship aids, but still green on the trails and still adapting to life in a herd environment. (Before he came to us he lived an isolated life with Bella)
